Dr. Jochsberger says "Thank You" to LIU Pharmacy Students

To the students of the Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy:

I was recently informed that I am the recipient of the 2007 David Newton Award for Excellence in Teaching. I am writing to express my thanks to all of you.

After almost forty years of teaching you get the sense that you’re doing a better than average job. But this may not always be the case and it’s gratifying to get this kind of validation.

You should know that I believe I’ve learned as much from you and my past students as you have learned from me. One of the most important things I’ve learned is that compassion and understanding are as important in the teaching process as a good set of notes or slides.

I’ve been fortunate to have received a number of awards during my tenure, including this one in 1989 (when many of you were not even contemplating kindergarten). But as I’ve reached the autumn of my years and am approaching the end of what has been a very satisfying career, I’ve begun to feel that my effectiveness in the classroom was, along with other things, waning. Therefore, winning this award at this time is particularly rewarding, not to say overwhelming; it is a confirmation that, as ancient as I am, I still have a bit to offer.

Again, my heartfelt thanks.

Dr. Jochsberger
