NCPA Dean's Hour on Nov. 17th

On Nov. 17th, 2008, the National Community Pharmacy Association (NCPA) held a Dean's Hour Program "Owning Your Own Pharmacy" with guest speaker Nasir Mahmood, RPh, President of PSSNY. Mr. Mahmood discussed his experience of opening up his pharmacy and answered students' questions about what students can do to prepare for opening up a pharmacy in the future and what he sees the future of pharmacy.

ASHP Dean's Hour: Why You Should Consider A Career in Hospital Pharmacy Practice?"


Fredrick B. Cassera, R.Ph., M.B.A is Director of Pharmaceutical Services at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, a position he has held since 1999. During his tenure at Maimonides, Mr Cassera has earned peer recognition as a Director who successfully integrates new technology to create a higher standard of practice, aimed at enhancing pharmaceutical care and improving patient safety. He presented at our Dean's Hour on Monday, Nov. 10th talking about various pharmacy services at Maimonides and career opportunities within hospital pharmacy.

Student National Pharmaceutical Association sponsored a Dean's Hour Program on Thursday, November 6th with featured guest speaker Robin M. Sayles, PharmD ’03. Now the assistant director of pharmacy services for CJW Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Sayles is a past president of both SNPhA and the Pharmacy Student Leadership Council. She spoke of her experiences and her success over the last five years she has been out of school.

On Monday, November 3, 2008, the Pharmaceutical Industry Student Association and the American Pharmacist Association- Academy of Student Pharmacists co-sponsored a Dean’s Hour Program with guest speaker Andrew Lam, Pharm.D. ’03, whose talk was titled “Liking what you do – Having your cake, and eating it too” (Reflections, five years out of school). Over 80 students attended the program and left with a better idea of their career opportunities and how good choices they make in pharmacy school can help them in their careers.

Training Session for Quitting Coaches

There will be a training sessions for students who are interested in being quitting coaches on
Nov. 10, 2009 1 - 3 p.m. OT Classroom HS 519-520
The agenda is: View Film of Pharmacy counseling session and discuss Review AHRQ -Guidelines Practice interviewing/Counseling using scripts (and feedback checklist-Anne to develop) from the 2008 Guidelines Ch3. AHCPR Discussion of student's role in Quit & Win program. Students will be paired in small groups, will interview for the patient who is ready to quit, recently quit and not ready to quit.
